It’s fun how choices that may seem trivial make all of the difference. The bright colors in this video are one of the things that make it work.
Really Great Music Videos: “Land of Confusion”
The quality on this video is not great. It could use some deinterlacing. I think better versions have been removed which is really sad because this is a fantastic video of which younger people today may not be aware.
Although not as good I think it is worth mentioning the Disturbed cover of this song and its video:
Really Great Music Videos: “Shut Up and Dance”
This works better than a lot of 80’s videos to which this video pays homage. Silly, campy, corny, and fun.
Really Great Music Videos: “Shark Attack”
The premise is adorable and clever and the execution makes we laugh. I can’t ask for more than that.
Really Great Music Videos: “At The Bottom Of Everything”
This is a great song, made better by a great video. Enjoy.
Really Great Music Videos: “Smooth Criminal”
Michael Jackson, again. I’m not confidant in explaining why the aesthetic of this video really works for me. But it does. That is enough.
There have been better versions of this video posted online but they are taken down so this is the best that is likely to still be online in the future.
Really Great Music Videos: “One”
I think Metallica’s “…And Justice For All” is a great album, the best album put out by Metallica, and that says a lot from a Cliff Burton fan like myself. “One” is an incredibly well constructed song. And I appreciate that the Metallica of that time decided that if they were going to make a music video they wanted to do something different, something that hadn’t been done before, something that had a statement and a purpose. Good for them.
Really Great Music Videos: “Handlebars”
This is a really great music video. The song is good but the video adds a completely different take on the song. The concept of 2 friends taking different paths in life is not intrinsic to the song, but that take in the video adds a dimension that heightens the impact of the song. Well done.
Really Great Music Videos: “Thriller”
A really great music video requires a great song and a video which adds something great to that song. There are not very many of these I think. So I thought I’d start with the most obvious and then move to the more obscure. There has been so much said about “Thriller” that at this moment I can’t think of anything worthwhile to add.
The Animal In Me
Surfing Spotify I found myself on punk covers of pop songs. This cover by The Animal In Me caught my attention enough to check out the band in more detail. If you like punk/hardcore covers of pop songs this (heavily merchandised) band might be to your liking.
