Good Riddance

I has happy to find that the Good Riddance album “A Comprehensive Guide to Moderne Rebellion” had been added to Spotify. Then, in an attempt to find some good live performances on Youtube I came across this documentary footage for the band called “Good Riddance Exposed 1994-1999”. Here are a few great songs performed live:

Better:

i told that man just what i thought of him
so i’m right where i am, tied to this bed
subconsciously restrained and now i wish i hadn’t said
what i said to both of my parents because i made my mother cry
if she’d only wait i’ll make it up to them because i can be a better man

Favorite Son:

Why did you need to take that pill? never has and never will make you better make you well
you’re shackled in your self-inflicted cell, sunlight you’ll never see, you’re a prisoner of pharmacology
and you’re telling me you feel fine, never better, that’s what you said in your last letter
that was read aloud at your memorial last week
where are you now? Up above? I hope you find some kind of love
that isn’t bottled or tamper-resistant but unconditional and consistent
the peace you’ve spent your lifetime searching for, searching for
if this is what it takes maybe others can learn from your mistakes
and turn off that blacklight before it gets too late, turn off that blacklight before it gets too late

Last Believer:

Desperate times, One thousand symptoms, One disease
Government tradition, And genocidal policies
Don’t look back, Don’t wait until history repeats
No, no more lies, No more bodies in the streets

The Cranberries – No Need To Argue

Just like “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?”, the singles from “No Need To Argue” are all great:

There are several other excellent songs on the album.

Daffodil Lament, which contains one of my favorite key changes:

The Cranberries – Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?

I generally like The Cranberries’ songs which have become hits, but I have always liked that their albums contain other gems, as good or better than their hits. So “Linger” is good, “Dreams” is great, and even better than both is “Wanted”:

Also excellent is “Waltzing Back”:

And “How”:

Turbo Kid

Turbo Kid is a great film. It is on Netflix. Go watch it. Here is a trailer but it has spoilers. If you’re not convinced to watch it then you can watch the trailer and have certain moments spoiled. It’s better to watch the movie without the trailer. And the movie is great. Ok, it’s not for everyone but that doesn’t make it any less great.

Battle Beast

How many times have you thought , “Why hasn’t a new fun band in the spirit of 80’s metal (like 80’s era Judas Priest) emerged recently?” If the answer is more than once I give you: Battle Beast. Like many metal bands I don’t like many of their songs, but the few that I do are really fun and their aim seems to be cheesy fun metal, not anything musically or lyrically serious. Sometimes that’s what I want to hear.

Battle Beast -LIVE- “Touch In The Night” @Berlin Jan 19, 2015:

Was my destiny designed by the hand of god?
Staring at memories will I find the answer there?
Will I?

Battle Beast – “Out of control” [HD] (Madrid 04-04-2016):

Come drink my blood, wake the demon in me
Come taste the wine of my sins

The Mountain Goats

I may write more about The Mountain Goats someday, about their significance to me and to others I care about. But for now, here is a song that has called to me recently:

“The Mountain Goats performing “Dance Music” live at Lee’s Palace in Toronto, 09/25/07″:

Lean in close to my little record player on the floor
So this is what the volume knob’s for
I listen to dance music
